RT Training

Yesterday I attended training on RT by Best Practical. Due to some last minute cancellations, there were only three of us in attendance, which probably sucked for Best Practical but was great for those of us in the class.

The training was, in a word, excellent. Led by a core RT developer (Linda Julien), we were given an overview of the myriad ways to extend RT. I learned I'd been doing it all wrong (patching each release manually to make it do what I want), and discovered that RT is built to support customization very well (with a slick module overlay system, abundant callbacks, and more). We also received tours of RTFM and RTIR, which are built on RT and demonstrate nicely how far you can take their platform. Finally, since there were only three of us, we got to ask Linda any and all of our RT questions, which she was able to answer with the clarity and authority that only a developer can.

Verdict: I highly recommend RT training for any organization using RT (and if you're not using RT, you probably should be!).
