Found it
Solveig and I have found the place. It’s an 1100 ft2 single bedroom apartment in the basement of an owner-occupied brownstone built in 1886 on Rhode Island Ave NW, between 14th and 15th. There’s great light thanks to large windows in front and back, and it’s got secure parking in the rear for the car, as well as all the standard amenities you’d expect. It’s 5 blocks from the White House, 5 blocks from Dupont Circle restaurants and subway, and 5 blocks to music and bars in the new U district. Easy access to everything we need, but the building itself is nestled into a quiet spot on a quiet street.
However, none of that really mattered much to us. What mattered most was our initial impression upon walking in. There’s that sense of place that you get when you fit
somewhere. It happened when we first walked into our last apartment in Somerville, and it happened when we first walked into this new place. Equally important (and again similar to our last place), we really like the owners.
So as soon as our references check out, we get to move in. Michael, start answering your phone! Kathy and Charles, come home from Ireland!
