Beating the odds

ApacheCon is over, but I'm still in Las Vegas in order to attend meetings for ETIPS. We had a surprisingly good meeting yesterday, but the evening was even better. First, we saw Cirque du Soleil's "O" at the Bellagio. Wow. It was simply amazing. The performers were amazing. Here I was thinking about how the night before, I was getting paid to throw dice and drink beer. But these people get paid to fly through the air. And they're really good at it. However, I was even more impressed by the technical crew, because the set was awesome. I can't do it justice in text. Just be sure to see the show if you're even in Vegas.

After "O" and dinner with the ETIPS crew, Dr Text and I hit the $1 craps tables at the Crown Royale Casino. With a $1 minimum you can safely bet fairly extravagantly, but I was feeling conservative so I bet conservatively. We left after less than an hour, becuase the people at the table were pretty subdued and there's nothing fun about subdued craps. Amazingly, when we left my original $20 had turned into $38.

Two nights in a row I've made money playing craps. This is bad. It completely destroys my theory that gambling is a no-win situation. I have emperical evidence that contradicts my theory. Hmm... danger, Danger Will Robinson!
